<div dir="auto">From August 11 to September 6, 2025 with the German Gastrofoundation’s support KSMA employees – endoscopists of the Department of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy of the RDTC Osmonaliev B.K., Atakulov B.A. and endoscopist Niyazov K.A. – completed an internship in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) at the Department of Endoscopy of the Kathmandu University Hospital (Dhulikhel, Nepal).

<div dir="auto">The training took place under the guidance of PhD Dr. Ram Gurung. During the internship, the doctors mastered the basics of the ERCP technique, including the preparation and evaluation of patients, indications and contraindications to the procedure, technique of performing selective cannulation of CBD, as well as the removal of stones from the bile ducts.</div>
<div dir="auto">The acquired knowledge and skills will become the basis for the implementation of the ERCP methodology in the RDTC, which will significantly expand the possibilities of diagnosis and treatment of patients with diseases of the biliary system in the republic.</div>

<p>On July 18, 2025, an information session dedicated to the first round of the Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) grant competition under the “Quality and Innovation in Higher Education” (QIHE) project, funded by the World Bank, was held in the conference hall of the main building of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA).<p>The event was organized by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic (MSHEI KR). Participants were introduced to the grant competition offering funding of up to USD 200,000 to support academic and educational initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education and promoting innovation in the country’s universities.</p><p>The session was attended by KSMA Vice-Rector for International Relations and Strategic Development Gulmira Jumalieva and Vice-Rector for Medical Affairs and Science Niyazbek Mamatov, highlighting the university leadership’s strong commitment to development and international engagement.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/07.25/img1_22.07.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/07.25/img1_22.07.25.jpeg"></p><p>The event also brought together representatives from the following departments:<br> • Neurology (residents),<br> • Oncology,<br> • General Hygiene,<br> • Hygiene-related disciplines of KNU,<br> • KNAU,<br> • Management and Economics of Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Technology named after Prof. E.S. Matiyev,<br>as well as colleagues from KSTU and other partner universities.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/07.25/img2_22.07.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/07.25/img2_22.07.25.jpeg"></p><p>During the session, the conditions for participation, project proposal requirements, selection criteria, and stages of project implementation were thoroughly discussed. <p>On June 18, 2025, a meeting was held at the main building of the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I.K. Akhunbaev (KGMA) between the academy’s rector, Professor Indira Orozobaeva Kudaybergenova, and a delegation from the Talas region. The delegation included the Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Talas region, Ermat Jumayev, the Director of the Talas Regional United Hospital, Nurdin Usupbekov, as well as the heads of district medical institutions.<p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/06.25/img4_18.06.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/06.25/img4_18.06.25.jpeg"></p><p>The primary goal of the meeting was to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between KGMA and the Talas region in the fields of medical education and healthcare. In his speech, Ermat Jumayev highlighted the serious issue of a shortage of medical personnel in the region and proposed specific measures to address it. He stated that the regional administration is ready to provide financial support to KGMA graduates who sign contracts to work in the Talas region. According to him, an additional 40,000 KGS will be allocated monthly to each of 25 doctors from the regional fund for three years. He also noted that housing and necessary support would be provided to all young specialists.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/06.25/img2_18.06.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/06.25/img2_18.06.25.jpeg"></p><p>For those who decide to stay in the Talas region on a long-term basis, the possibility of providing apartments through state mortgage companies will be considered. <p>A new scientific project has been launched at the Department of General and Clinical Epidemiology of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, to be implemented from 2025 to 2027. The project is carried out within the framework of an agreement with the University of Zurich to enhance research activities. Its title is “Study of Risk Factors for Complications, Disability, or Premature Mortality from Echinococcosis in the Kyrgyz Republic.”<p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img5_28.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img5_28.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The project aims at a deep exploration of the key aspects influencing the course of echinococcosis, with the goal of developing preventive strategies and improving the quality of medical care.</p><p>On May 21, 2025, the first working meeting of the project participants was held. During the meeting, a detailed action plan for the near future was discussed. Participants outlined the main implementation stages, research methods, and expected outcomes. This meeting was an important step in establishing an effective foundation for scientific collaboration and experience exchange between research teams from the Kyrgyz Republic and Switzerland.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img11_29.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img11_29.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The project promises to make a significant contribution to improving knowledge on the prevention and treatment of echinococcosis, as well as to become a foundation for broader international cooperation in medical science.</p></p>

<p>From May 12 to 23, 2025, five first- and second-year residents from the “Privolzhsky Research Medical University” (PRMU) of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Nizhny Novgorod, completed an internship in “Epidemiology” at the Department of General and Clinical Epidemiology of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA) as part of academic mobility development. The group was supervised by Associate Professor of the Department of Epidemiology, Microbiology, and Evidence-Based Medicine, Candidate of Medical Sciences Nikolay Valentinovich Saperkin.<p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img2_28.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img2_28.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The PRMU residents visited the practical bases of KSMA, including the Departments of Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision (DPSGES and CPSGES) in Bishkek, the Republican Center for Quarantine and Especially Dangerous.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img3_28.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img3_28.05.25.jpeg"></p></p>

<p>On May 19–20, 2025, the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA) is hosting a conference dedicated to the World Family Doctor Day under the title “Kyrgyzstan — A New Perspective on Family Medicine.” The theme of the event follows the global motto: “Healthy Planet — Healthy People.”<p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img7_19.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img7_19.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The event was opened by the Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Erkin Checheibaev, who emphasized the importance of strengthening the family medicine system to improve public health. Welcome speeches were also delivered by Professor Nurlan Brimkulov (KSMA Department of Family Medicine, DIPDO) and Dr. Liviu Vedrasco, a representative of the World Health Organization.</p><p>The first day of the conference featured presentations by leading specialists on pressing issues in family medicine. Highlights included a presentation on allergodermatoses by Professor Meikin Usubaliev and updates on GINA-2025 guidelines for bronchial asthma, presented by Professor Nurlan Brimkulov. Special attention was given to the practical significance of inflammation markers in viral diarrhea in children (Assistant M.K. Bedelbaev).</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img8_19.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img8_19.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The second half of the day included further reports on topics such as diabetes mellitus (Dr. Patrick Cheng), the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases (Assistant D.K. Kushubekov), the regional distribution of family doctors in Kyrgyzstan (Assistant E.I. Botbaeva), and the development of palliative care in the republic (Dr. Sabyrbekova T.S.). The day concluded with a clinical case analysis presented by resident A. Kemelova.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img19_19.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img19_19.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>On May 20, the event will continue on KSMA’s summer grounds with an opening ceremony. The day will feature functional training sessions aimed at enhancing the practical skills of family doctors. The program will conclude with a roundtable discussion on the topic: “The State and Prospects for the Development of Family Medicine Associations in the Kyrgyz Republic.”</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img17_19.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img17_19.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The conference will end with a certificate award ceremony and a summary of the outcomes. <p>Today, a lecture by Professor Paul Torgerson, Head of the Epidemiology Section at the University of Zurich (Switzerland), was held at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMА). The topic of the lecture was: “Epidemiology of Echinococcosis and Alveococcosis in Kyrgyzstan.”<p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img2_19.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img2_19.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>Professor Torgerson, a renowned international expert in epidemiology and zoonotic diseases, highlighted the key aspects of the spread and control of echinococcosis and alveococcosis, which remain pressing issues for the healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img3_19.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img3_19.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>The event was attended by residents of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years, postgraduate and doctoral students of the departments, as well as the faculty members of KSMU. Participants noted the high scientific quality of the lecture and the relevance of the presented information for further practical and research work.</p><p>The lecture by Professor Torgerson became an essential part of KSMU’s collaboration with international experts and made a significant contribution to the development of the academy’s scientific potential.</p></p>

Akhunbaev is hosting a visit from Swiss expert, endoscopist, and colorectal specialist, Dr. Kaspar Truninger.<p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img4_15.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img4_15.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>Dr. Truninger is actively collaborating with the department’s doctors and KSMA faculty members, including R.M. Attokurova, A.E. Eldiyarova, B.K. Osmonaliyev, and B.A. Atakulov, as well as 1st and 3rd-year residents specializing in gastroenterology.</p><p><img class="image-link img-full" src="/images/base/05.25/img5_15.05.25.jpeg" alt="" data-mfp-src="/images/full/05.25/img5_15.05.25.jpeg"></p><p>As part of the visit, masterclasses are being held on gastroscopy, duodenoscopy, and colonoscopy.
