The Department of Foreign and Latin Languages was established in 1939, a year of the foundation of the Medical Institute (now the I.K.Akhunbayev KSMA). The first head of Foreign and Latin languages department - senior teacher V.V. Gunn-Mulman (1939-1946). In subsequent years, the department was headed by E.A. Pishe, A.M. Savrutskaya, A.I. Gladilshikova, T.T. Tursunaliev a well-known methodist who made a great contribution to the development and improvement of teaching methods not only foreign, but also Latin, the author of English textbooks for Kyrgyz schools. Prof. T.T. Tursunaliev headed the department from 1977 to 1998.
In 1998, the department was headed by Ph.D., Associate Professor Ch.S. Tuleeva, from 1999 to 2002 – G.S. Zamaletdinova; in 2002, the Department was united with the Department of Russian and Kyrgyz Languages, and renamed into the Department of Languages: the head of the department was Ph.D. N.M. Koichumanova In 2005, there was a reorganization: the Department of Foreign and Latin Languages became a separate department again. Since 2005, the department has been headed by associate Professor G.S. Zamaletdinova, trained at the leading universities in the USA and England, Excellence in Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, she was awarded Certificates of Honor from the Ministry of Education, Public Health, and the KSMA, a Medal for Services to the KSMA, a badge of the I.K. Akhunbayev KSMA and a Letter of thanks of the Jogorku Kenesh for diligent work, and in 2018 for achievements in the field of pedagogical activity she was awarded a diploma and a gold medal of the Congress of Kyrgyzstan Teachers.
14 teachers work at the department: 1 associate professor, 2 senior teachers, 4 teachers in the foreign languages section; There are 2 senior teachers and 5 teachers in the Latin language section. Baigazieva N.K. and Tentimisheva B.D. manage the sections.
Classes in Latin, English and German are conducted for the 1st year students of all faculties according to approved programs with passing Latin language exam at the faculties of Stomatology, Pediatrics, and PM. In addition, the teachers of the department teach elective courses, as well as in groups of post-graduate students, to prepare them for the candidate minimum exams in foreign languages.
The department edits methodological manuals in English and provides assistance in translating the KSMA website into English.
Under the guidance of the head of the department, Assoc. prof. Zamaletdinova G.S. the staff of the department are working on the research topic "Formation of professional foreign language competence of medical students", within the framework of which over the past 5 years about 35 methodological manuals and recommendations have been published, including "Dictionary of Medical abbreviations" (Zamaletdinova G.S., Moldokulova L.D.), "English textbook for doctors" (Zamaletdinova G.S.), "Kyrgyz-Russian dictionary for dentists" (Amiraev U.A., Zamaletdinova G.S.); The educational and methodological manual "German for medical students" (Tentimisheva B.D., Sydykova Zh.Zh.). Every year teachers participated in the Days of Science of the KSMA. The teachers of the Latin language section published an "Educational and methodological manual on the Latin language" in Kyrgyz, "Tests for the SIW in Russian and English" (Tentimisheva B.D., Kolbaeva M.J., Dyushekeeva A.K.)
In 2021, a dictionary of the system of medicinal plants was published together with the departments: “Russian-Latin-Kyrgyz-English dictionary on the classification system of medicinal plants” (Muratalieva A.D., Zamaletdinova G.S., Murzabaeva Ch.A., Ismailova D.N., Kaparov B.M.)
In 2023, “Atlas of Histology, Cytology and Embryology” was published together with the department of Histology.
From 2015 to 2017, the department participated in the Tempus program "Teaching foreign languages for professional purposes". Within the framework of this program, a Language Learning Center has been established, located in the morphological building: The Tempus program is funded by the European Union and is aimed at supporting the modernization of higher education in partner countries from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Azerbaijan. 14 computers, a server, a printer, a projector and a document camera were received through the Tempus line. In addition, the head of the department, assoc. prof. Zamaletdinova G.S., senior teachers Moldokulova L.D., Elgondieva T.A., teacher Teshebaeva D.T. participated in seminars on the Tempus program in England, Estonia and Azerbaijan, Tajikistan.
The department has English, German and Latin language clubs, whose members speak at the scientific conference with abstracts and participate in the department and international Olympiad in English and Latin languages, as well as in the international literary competition "Living Latin". In the past year, a student of A. Asanalieva, I. Kyazbekova (scient. Supervisor B.D. Tentimisheva) took the III prize in the Danzig International Essay Competition.
In 2023, teachers Ernazarova U.A., Baizhigitova A.A. participated with the report “Concept of Respect in different systems of languages" in the international conference "Innovative teaching learning practices: a Paradigm Shift", organized by Sharda University (India, New Delhi).
Every year, the department actively participates with reports in the All-Russian international conference “Week of Medical Education”, organized by the Institute of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication under the leadership of I.Y. Markovina of Moscow Sechenov University.
All the teachers of the department are working out different scientific topics.
