The Department of Children's Diseases was organized in 1942 on the initiative of Professor L.O.Finkelstein, who was evacuated to Frunze during the Great Patriotic War, who headed it and worked from 1942 to 1945. Subsequently, the department was headed by associate professors Balmagia A.T. (1945-1949), Margolis R.I., Merson B.G.
In 1952, at the invitation of the government of the Kyrgyz SSR, Professor B.F. Shagan arrived from Leningrad, who headed the department and permanently led it until 1974.
In 1962, two departments of pediatrics were established: pediatric (head of the department – Prof. B.F. Shagan) and medical (head of the department – Prof. Pokrovskoy T.I.) faculties.
In 1970, the Department of Pediatrics of the Pediatric Faculty was divided into 4 independent departments: the Department of Hospital Pediatrics, the Department of Faculty Pediatrics with a course in propaedeutics of childhood diseases, the Department of Pediatric Infections, the Department of Pediatric Surgery.
In 1983, the pediatric departments were redesigned and established:
• Department of Pediatrics No. 1 under the supervision of Professor T.I.Pokrovskaya.
• Department of Pediatrics No. 2, headed by Associate Professor R.Y. Tashmatova.
• The Department of Propaedeutics of Childhood Diseases under the leadership of MD, Professor Kozhonazarov K.K.
In 1992, the Department of Pediatrics No. 1 was renamed the Department of Faculty Pediatrics with a course of Propaedeutics of childhood diseases, (head of the department - Professor Kozhonazarov K.K.)
The Department of Faculty Pediatrics in 1992 was initially located on the basis of Alamedin CRH and GDKB No.3, and from 1995 to the present – in the RDKB (now NCOMiD). Professor continued to lead the department. Kozhonazarov K.K.
From 1997 to 2011, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Bakasov S.S.
From 2011 to the present, the head of the department is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alymbaev E.Sh.
Tatyana Ivanovna Pokrovskaya – MD, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic, Excellent Health Worker of the USSR, holder of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Badge of Honor, “Manas III degree", Dank Medal. All the work of T.I. Pokrovskaya for 67 years has been associated with the I.K. Akhunbaev KSMU. She has trained 28 candidates and 3 doctors of medical sciences, published more than 260 works, 6 monographs, more than 300 scientific articles, and a large number of methodological recommendations.
Kenzhebai Kozhonazarovich Kozhonazarov – MD, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic, excellent healthcare worker. He is rightfully the founder of the pediatric gastroenterological service in Kyrgyzstan. Thanks to him, the first department of gastroenterology of the newly built RDKB (now NCOMiD) was opened, where his students successfully work today. He was awarded Honorary diplomas of the Presidium of the Council of Kyrgyzstan, diplomas of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, MZKR, MOiNCR, KGMA. He has published more than 150 scientific papers, 4 monographs, 12 methodological developments, has 2 patents for inventions and 3 innovation proposals.
From 1997 to 2011, the department was headed by Professor Bakasov Stalbek Sabdrakunovich, MD, Professor, doctor of the highest category, highly qualified specialist in the field of pediatric cardiorheumatology.
All pedagogical, scientific and therapeutic activities of Stalbek Sabdrakunovich are connected with the KSMU.
5 candidates of medical sciences have been trained, 176 scientific papers, 32 methodological developments and 1 monograph have been published.
He was awarded Certificates of Honor from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Science, has the title of “Excellent Student of Healthcare of the Kyrgyz Republic” “Excellent Student of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic”.
Since 2011, the department has been headed by Erkin Shakirovich Alymbayev, MD, Professor, excellent health worker of the Kyrgyz Republic, a doctor of the highest qualification category, has a badge “For services to KSMAA”.
E.Sh.Alymbaev published 103 scientific articles, 1 monograph, 11 methodological developments. Alymbayev E.Sh. is the supervisor of 7 topics of PhD dissertations.
Under his leadership, the staff of the department conducts comprehensive educational, methodological, research, and therapeutic work.
From 2017-2022 - Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of the I.K.Akhunbayev KSMU.
In October 2023, the staff of the Department of Faculty Pediatrics organized the International Congress of Pediatricians “Pediatrics at the turn of Generations”, which was attended by pediatricians from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Germany, Georgia and which was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Professor T. I. Pokrovskaya, the 90th anniversary of Professor K.K. Kozhonazarov and the 70th anniversary of D.M.N., Abdyldaeva B.I.
To date, 42 employees work at the department, of which 27 are main ones, 5 are associate professors, and 12 are Ph.D.s. In March 2024, Associate Professor G.K. Kozhonazarova defended her doctoral thesis. Permanent, for 17 years, the head teacher of the department – associate professor Akhmedova H.R. Long-term chairman of the trade union committee of the department and chief curator of the 6th year students of the Faculty of Pediatrics – Associate professor Shishkina V.G. Associate Professor Naritsyna L.M. is the most experienced teacher of the department - 50 years of work within the walls of KSMU.
The clinical bases of the department are: NCOMiD, Pediatric Service, Medical Center of KSMU, Bishkek Cardio, in which all employees of the department combine teaching with medical work, so that the educational process is inseparable from clinical work. Over the past year, 4 methodological recommendations have been published: "Diseases of the digestive organs in children", "Diabetic nephropathy in children", "Thyroid disease in children", "Metabolic syndrome in children". The scope of scientific work is quite wide – the issues of pediatric gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology, cardiology, diseases of young children.
Our department conducts practical classes and lectures on the subject of "Childhood diseases" for students of the faculties "Pediatrics", "Medicine", "Medical preventive medicine", "Medicine for foreign citizens", as well as residents, interns, graduate students.
For many years, the staff of our department have been curators of the 6th year students of the Faculty of Pediatrics. The following events are held jointly with the students: Kyrgyz Language Day, International AIDS Day, New Year's Matinee for hospital children, Nooruz celebration, Ak Kalpak Day, Children's Day, participation in the Immortal Regiment, visits to theaters and international exhibitions on medical technologies.
For 10 years, the student scientific circle “Pediatry Alumni” has been functioning, headed by assistant D.A. Amatov.
Eight International student Olympiads in Pediatrics were held by the members of the circle, in addition, they traveled to the CIS countries for the Olympics, taking prizes at the same time. Since 2023, student inter-faculty games "What? Where? When?"
Two employees of the department are deans: Terekhova O. I. – Faculty of Pediatrics and Bogomolets K.Yu. – Faculty of Medical Bioengineering. Associate Professor Kozhonazarova G.K. and assistant Fayzova F.M. are national coaches in the Pocket Handbook.
In 2024, by order of the rector of the I.K. Akhunbayev KSMU, the Department of Faculty Pediatrics was named after Professor K.K. Kozhonazarov.

Constantly published scientific articles, methodological recommendations, in addition, the department annually holds scientific and practical conferences and is the organizer of the "Games of Pediatricians" and NIRS, actively participates in the "Days of Science", as well as students travel to international conferences and annually receive prizes.
We held the VII International "Games of Pediatricians 2022" in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, which were held in our "Alma mater" Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I. K. Akhunbaev. I. K. Akhunbaev. I would like to note that the 1st Games of pediatricians were held in the distant 2016.
Practical classes and lectures are conducted at the department. Under the supervision of an assistant, students perform independent work. According to the schedule, work is being received and consultations are being held. Teachers' professional development, their presentations and participation in various conferences are regularly carried out. The department has organized a scientific student's circle on pediatrics.
Residents practice at the workplace under the guidance of teachers in a hospital or in a polyclinic. The curriculum is updated at least once every three years, taking into account the learning outcomes and new international recommendations.
The training is conducted using modern techniques and technologies (interactive whiteboard, dummies, visual aids), which allows students to gain comprehensive knowledge and prepare for professional activity.
