The Department of Pathological anatomy was founded in 1941 by Boris Fedorovich Malyshev, who was a unique medical scientist, a representative of the Leningrad school of pathologists.
After the death of B. F. Malyshev the Department was headed by his students: associate Professor Yu. M. Toropov (1966-1967), associate Professor S. H. Khamitov (1967-1968) and associate Professor A. I. Arbuzov (1968-1969).
From 1969 to 1972 the Department was headed by Professor A. M. Khelimskaya.
From 1972 to 1973 the Department was again headed by associate Professor A. I. Arbuzov.
From 1973 to 1997 the Department was headed by Professor V. T. Lyamtsev, representative of the Leningrad school of pathologists. The staff of the Department under the leadership of V. T. Lyamtsev systematized and improved educational and methodical work.
From 1997 to 2004 the Department was headed by associate Professor Zh. T. Turganbaev.
Since 2004 to present the head of the Department is doctor of Medicine, Professor I. Satylganov.
